November has begun

What a colourful landscape! Yet in our region, the season never ends. In our beautiful Austrian-Bohemian border region, there’s something going on 365 days a year.
This weekend, too, we were delighted to welcome many lovely regulars, new guests, walkers and history enthusiasts to the Waldhotel Peršlák. As well as delicious food in our restaurant, one group also had the chance to discover some history: We were delighted to show you round the restored village of Neumühl and tell you about the history of Peršlák.
We would like to thank you all very much for your many visits! We are open all year round, seven days a week, serving hot meals all day long, and we look forward to your next visit!

The red poppy and the black cross

Did you know that different symbols are used in the Czech Republic and Austria to commemorate the victims of war? Whilst in Austria and Germany the black cross is closely associated with the War Graves Commission, in the Czech Republic the red poppy, originating from the Anglo-Saxon tradition of remembrance, has become widespread.
Today I visited the cemetery in Neubistritz. There is a mass grave there for soldiers from the First World War who died in what was then the military hospital at Neubistritz Castle. Most of them came from distant parts of the former monarchy. They never returned to their families.
To commemorate the dead today, I lit a candle for them. As a symbol linking our traditions of remembrance, I left a sticker featuring a black cross and a red poppy at their grave.
May the earth rest lightly upon them.
