Dear guests,
a long weekend awaits us in the Czech Republic: the Czech public holidays ‘Day of the Slavic Apostles Cyril and Methodius’ on 5 July 2026 and ‘Day of the Burning of Jan Hus’ on 6 July 2026 fall on a Sunday and a Monday this year. If you’d like to spend one of these days shopping, we have some good news: shops in the Czech Republic will be open as usual. If you’d like to make the most of cultural activities in your free time, we recommend taking a look at the website www.vianorelia.eu, where you’ll find an overview of various events in our beautiful Austrian-Czech border region. If, on the other hand, you’d prefer to relax a little, you can visit the restaurant at the Waldhotel Peršlák, where you can enjoy our summer specialities – pancakes with quark and blueberries, blueberry dumplings or an ice cream sundae with blueberries, egg liqueur and whipped cream. We look forward to your visit.

Dear guests,
Summer is in full swing and temperatures are truly soaring. Many of us are seeking relief from the heat in swimming pools, ponds and the like. If you haven’t made any plans yet, do take a look at our cross-border events calendar, which you can find at www.vianorelia.eu. There you’ll find everything that’s going on in our Austrian-Czech border region. Guests at our restaurant can find shade under parasols, which also protect them from a sudden rain shower. A misting system installed on the terrace also helps to cool the air. And if that isn’t enough, our visitors can make use of our new, very eco-friendly and personalised air-conditioning system – namely fans, which we lend out free of charge to anyone who’s interested. Do come and visit us, not just to refresh yourself with cold drinks, but also to try out how ladies in days gone by used fans to keep cool.

Dear guests,
This Sunday, 21 June 2026, at 10.24 am, astronomical summer begins for us – in other words, the summer solstice takes place. And the weather forecasts are promising truly warm summer weather. This year, this day also falls on Father’s Day, so fathers can celebrate the longest day of the year not only with their children. Our recommendation is, of course, a day out that includes a visit to our restaurant, where you can refresh yourselves with your favourite drink or fortify yourselves with one of our dishes before continuing on your way.
Celebrations to mark the summer solstice are taking place in many places, for example in Gopprechts or Heidenreichstein. You can find these and other leisure events taking place in our Czech-Austrian border region on the website www.vianorelia.eu

Dear guests,
Last week, due to power cuts, we were unable to stick to our weekly menu and served grilled meat instead. As a result, our vegetarian guests had to miss out on their meat-free Thursday. To make up for this, we have prepared two meat-free dishes for next week. On Tuesday, you can enjoy wholemeal dumplings stuffed with cheese on a bed of spinach leaves with onions in our restaurant, and on our traditional vegetarian Thursday, we are offering spaghetti pomodoro with freshly grated Parmesan.
Don’t forget! The Open Studio will be opening its doors in the salon of the Waldhotel Peršlák as early as Thursday 10 June 2026, and you can watch the artists at work or chat with them from Thursday 10 June 2026 to Sunday 14 June 2026, from 10:00 to 12:00 or in the afternoon from 16:00 to 18:00. Dear guests,
there are two public holidays coming up next week. On Thursday, 4 June, Austria celebrates the nationwide public holiday of Corpus Christi. As this is a public holiday, supermarkets, shopping centres and most shops across the country will be closed. However, we will be open at the Waldhotel Peršlák and look forward to welcoming you.
International Children’s Day is already on Monday, 1 June, with celebrations taking place in many places from this weekend right through to next week. You can find an overview of these celebrations and further leisure tips in our events calendar on our website here: Event
Are you interested in how works of art are created? Where do artists find the inspiration for their work? Or would you like to see how a new painting is created? Come and visit us at the Waldhotel Peršlák for the ‘Open Studios’ from Thursday 10 June 2026 to Sunday 14 June 2026, from 10.00 am to 12.00 pm or in the afternoon from 4.00 pm to 6.00 pm, and find out all about it. In our salon, five artists from different parts of the world will be creating their works and will be delighted to answer any questions you may have.

Dear guests,
Monday 25 May 2026 is Whit Monday, a day which is celebrated more widely in Austria than in the Czech Republic and has therefore been a public holiday since 1945, meaning that shops will be closed. But of course, we are always open for you. This public holiday, which falls 50 days after Easter, celebrates the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles in countries such as Austria, Germany, Hungary, Denmark and France. Christians regard this day as a symbol of the founding of the Church.

Dear guests,
The ‘Ice Saints’ Pankratius, Servatius and Bonifatius have certainly lived up to their name, bringing us some chilly mornings. Today, 15 May 2026, marks the last of these days, which is also Saint Sophie’s name day. In Bohemia, there is a saying associated with this day: “Svatá Žofie ledy ze střech pije.” (‘Saint Sophie drinks the ice from the roofs’), whilst in Austria they say: ‘No summer before Sophie, no frost after Sophie.’ In our restaurant, however, it is always pleasantly warm thanks to the fireplaces. When the weather is fine, our hotel terrace invites you to linger.

Dear guests,
We will be sending you next week’s menu as early as Thursday, as tomorrow is a public holiday in the Czech Republic – the anniversary of the end of the Second World War. Please note that shops in the Czech Republic will be closed tomorrow. Don’t forget to wish all mothers and grandmothers a happy Mother’s Day on Sunday. If you’re not sure how to surprise them, why not invite them to visit our restaurant at the Waldhotel Peršlák, perhaps for a coffee or to try our new speciality, ‘Sarti Rosa’. Next Thursday is a public holiday, but only in Austria, Germany, France and Switzerland, as they celebrate Ascension Day. They commemorate the event when Jesus Christ appeared to the apostles for the last time 40 days after his resurrection and ascended into heaven before their eyes. In the Czech Republic, this is a normal working day.

Dear Guests,
today, May 30, is Walpurgis Night, when bonfires are lit throughout the Czech Republic. How did this custom originate? Even before Christianization, European peoples celebrated the transition from April to May as an important time of year—the end of winter and the beginning of the fertile season. Fire was regarded as a purifying and protective element, which is why large bonfires were lit to drive away evil spirits, protect the harvest and livestock, and strengthen the power of the sun. People believed that supernatural forces were at their strongest on this very night. The Celtic festival of Beltane, celebrated at nearly the same time and also featuring large fires, held a similar significance. In the Middle Ages, this tradition reflected a strong belief in witches, who, according to superstition, gathered for sabbats on this night. Consequently, people began burning effigies representing witches—symbols of winter, evil, or misfortune. Today, it is primarily a social event: people gather around the fire, events for children are organized, sausages are grilled, and it is often a celebration of community.
Tomorrow, May 1, you and your loved ones can celebrate not only Labor Day but also the Day of Love—in keeping with tradition, with a kiss under a blossoming cherry tree or another tree. Lovers often head out into nature to romantic spots. There are many such places in the vicinity of the Foresthotel Peršlák, where all visitors can then relax and recharge in our restaurant.
Where in our area are witches burned, and what other events are taking place in our Czech-Austrian border region? We'll keep you up to date. You can now find our event tips on our homepage on the page: Event

Dear Guests,
Spring is in full swing; nature has come back to life and is beginning to display its beautiful colors. Green, of course, dominates in many shades—the dark green of the conifers, the fresh green of the birch leaves, and the light green, almost yellowish green of the maple blossoms. Amidst this sea of green, white-blooming blackthorns or other fruit trees occasionally stand out, or you might spot brown blades of grass, oak leaves that haven’t yet fallen, or deciduous trees just beginning to bud. Sometimes you can even see yellow dandelion blossoms. This picture of the rural landscape is complemented by the blue sky. You’ll encounter all of this on your way to Peršlák. Don’t hesitate to come on foot, by bike, on horseback, by car, or by carriage to admire the picturesque scenery and enjoy your favorite dish or drink at our restaurant, or to try our new Sarti Spritz.
